WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The Supervisor Public Safety Ambassadors reports directly to the Manager, Public Safety. This position is responsible for assisting the Manager in the supervision of the daily activities of the Public Safety Ambassador Unit. This position will also provide information and direction to patrons and staff being an informational conduit to the Cap Metro Operations Center, and other Cap Metro departments, and to first responders; as well as supervise various safety and security operations. The supervisor will manage public safety projects, and coordinate joint projects with various government agencies, Capital Metro’s contractors and local civic organizations to achieve Capital Metro’s strategic plans and goals.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

- Guide, coach, and direct the activities and functions of the Public Safety Ambassadors.
- Assist with the management of the day-to-day public safety operations for Capital Metro and contractors.
- Conduct investigations of customers, contractors, and visitor complaints.
- Ensure that all work assignments are completed and documented.
- Create Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) for the Ambassador Unit as needed.
- Create general orders and policies and procedures for the Ambassador Unit.
- Review incident reports, activity logs and other documentation.
- Ensure that all mandatory and other training for the Ambassador Unit is completed.
- Work with operations staff, supervisors, radio control dispatch, and management to prevent or solve public safety concerns.
- Work closely with and support our Community Intervention Specialists.
- Coordinate joint projects with various community public safety agencies, other stakeholders and attend community meetings to assist with resolutions and respond to public safety concerns.
- Network with law enforcement and other emergency response agencies; act as department liaison between various groups and other internal/external departments, groups, and agencies.
- Develop and implement public safety strategies and security measures .
- Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by following safety and security policies, considering safety in every action, and reporting safety and security concerns.
RESPONSIBILITIES – SUPERVISOR AND/OR LEADERSHIP EXERCISED:
Manage department personnel by planning, scheduling, delegating, and overseeing employee work assignments, authorizing, coordinating, and scheduling work with vendors and consultants, conducting personnel actions, including, hiring and interviewing, and overseeing hiring, training, work assignments, and performance evaluations. Ensure employee timesheets are maintained and submitted in a timely manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in an office and outside environment with exposure to inclement weather and adverse weather conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature.
Incumbent must have the ability to stand, walk and travel 90% throughout the work day. This position will need to have the ability to work varying shifts, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, to meet the department needs. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions. This position may require work beyond a normal forty-hour weekly schedule.

WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field. Related experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- Five years’ experience, providing high level customer service to a diverse customer base with supervisory or lead experience.
- Experience as an armed or unarmed security guard, law enforcement officer, or equivalent position within the military preferred but not required.
- Possess a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Experienced with various computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex problems and find solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meets established deadlines, generate spreadsheets, and write detailed reports.
- Knowledge of National Incident Management System and/or Incident Command System.
- Ability to work in a team environment, partnering well with employees, management, users, vendors, contractors and undertake duties and tasks as assigned without requiring close supervision.
- Ability to be a positive and constructive contributor in a team-based environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officers, management, service contractors and the public.
- Analytical ability to find solutions to complex problems and issues.
- Ability to meet established deadlines, populate spreadsheets and write detailed reports.
- Ability to effectively communicate with various individuals with wide ranging levels of education and abilities.
- Ability to learn and apply de-escalation, anti-bias, problem solving, security/safety awareness trainings, and other training related to the skills needed to perform successfully.
- Ability to main to maintain an effective working relationship with employees, management, first responders, contractors, and public.
- Detail oriented and the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment that supports transparent communication among staff.
- Ability to manage and monitor work performance of a unit, including the ability to:
o Evaluate program and work objectives and effectiveness
o Establish broad organizational goals
o Re-align work and staffing assignments to meet the needs of the department
