The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is one of two branches of government that provide oversight for the beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis industries in the province. The LDB is responsible for the wholesale distribution of liquor and cannabis, and operates the retails brands BCLIQUOR and BC Cannabis Stores.

Business Area Description:

Corporate Operations at the BCLDB includes our Corporate Loss Prevention, Construction and Facilities and Leasing departments. Construction and Facilities department manages all activities related to the construction, renovation, and facilities management of all new and existing LDB facilities, included head office, distribution centres, and all BC Liquor and BC Cannabis retail locations. The Leasing department manages all activities related to leasing of all new and existing LDB facilities, included head office, distribution centres, and all BC Liquor and BC Cannabis retail locations. The Corporate Loss Prevention department ensures the security of all BCLDB assets through physical security management as well as an investigative team.

About this role:

Under the direction of the Manager Investigations, Retail Services (RDC) and Manager, Physical Security (DDC) the Building Security Officer ensures compliance with all policies and procedures related to security and safety at the Branch Head Office, government liquor stores and distribution centres. This role provides security advice to store managers and employees throughout the province, operates a central alarm monitoring system which provides support to Branch facilities throughout the province, and provides security support and the safeguarding of all Branch assets, employees, contractors, customers, and business partners.

The working conditions require candidates to work independently without supervision and to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia. They must be physically capable of manually opening and closing heavy gates (approximately 500 lbs. on a roller) in the event of a power failure and performing hourly foot patrols of the building and its premises. The position operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including work on statutory holidays. A criminal record check is required.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent certificate combined with a minimum of one-year recent related experience in security or law enforcement, within the last five (5) years.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Basic Security Training 1 and/or Basic Security Training 2 (BST 1 & 2) through a recognized training school.
