Position overview:

Paragon is looking for a highly motivated individual for a Security Dispatch Operator position at Seneca Polytechnic Newnham Campus. The primary purpose of a Seneca Security Dispatch Operator is to be responsible for the overall coordination and dispatching of all security personnel to ensure the effective completion of all assigned tasks.
The hours for this position is days/afternoons/nights rotation and you will be expected to have open availability (7 days a week). The shift lengths are 8 hours. The pay rate for the position starts at $19.00/HR and is based on a leveling system. An Ontario Security Guard Licence is not required for this position.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and foster an environment that is inducive to learning through security initiatives and building meaningful relationships with community members and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate and dispatch all security personnel to ensure the effective completion of all assigned tasks and calls.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of all tasks and calls.
- Maintain effective and orderly operations in the absence of leadership.
- Provide excellent customer service to community members and assist with general inquiries and transfer to applicable persons or departments.
- Monitor and answer general and emergency phone lines.
- Monitor and operate the security alarm system and fire panel and dispatch security personnel in response to relevant emergencies and incidents.
- Monitor and operate all CCTV systems across all campuses.
- Monitor a wide array of media outlets including social media to report on potential emergency situations in relation to all campuses.
- Liaise with emergency services and third-party alarm monitoring company as required.
- Liaise with other Seneca departments and third-party contractors with relation to security issues or functions.
- Perform access control functions such as contractor and after-hours sign-in/out and key issuance, et cetera.
- Perform general office duties such as filing, clerical and other assigned duties.
- Escalate major incidents to Shift Supervisors upon discovery.
- Assist with scheduled audits and tests of various security systems such as keysets, maglocks, emergency phones, panic alarms, interior and exterior lighting, et cetera.
- Assist with the training of new security personnel.
- Maintain training certifications on an annual basis or as required.
- Be up to date with security and Seneca policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Seneca Administrators or Paragon Management.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be available to work full time, rotational day and night shifts.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Level C.
- 911 & Emergency Services Communication or related law enforcement post-secondary program graduates preferred.
- 1 year of security experience in post-secondary, related security experience or security training/formal education.
- 1 year of dispatch or call taking experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and acceptable typing skills.
- Working knowledge of Provincial Offences Act, Criminal Code of Canada, fire prevention, crowd management techniques, crime scene preservation and basic investigative techniques.
